Sometimes our lives are shaken to the very core. All that we know and have come to trust seems to have fallen away. Everything appears fearful and unnerving. We are pulled outside of our comfort zones. Circumstances seem to be more than we can bear.
The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him. – Nahum 1:7
When life is beyond our control, we need faith in the One who has all in His control. In uncertain times, we need courageous faith in God to see us through.
God dwells in eternity, but time dwells in God. He has already lived all our tomorrows as He has lived all our yesterdays. – A.W. Tozer
We cannot see into the future… but our God can. He is not constrained by time. He reigns sovereign over the universe. He sees through the “fog” of uncertain times. Who else would we dare to trust with our lives?
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber. – Psalm 121:1-3
Times of trial and uncertainty are the true tests of our faith. We find our faith to be strong in the good times… when we feel comfortable and secure… when life appears to be within our control.
Yet complacency can sneak in and steal away our faith. We come to believe that we have mastery over our own lives… and our faith in God moves to the background. When difficult or unsettling times come along, our trust in God wavers. We fall into the enemy’s traps of fear, worry, doubt, discouragement, despair.
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord Himself, is my strength and my defense. – Isaiah 12:2
In such times, we need to remember that God is our true foundation. He is omnipotent. His command over all the universe never wavers, never falters. He never slumbers or sleeps (Psalm 121:4). He is our Rock, our fortress. He is the One in whom our trust is to be placed.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. – Psalm 46:1-2
In times of uncertainty, we have two choices. We can succumb to worldly fear and dread… falling for the lies and deceits of the enemy. Or we can choose to have faith in the God who loves us… who is ever-present to strengthen, help and protect. In Him we find our refuge.
In times of peace and well-being, we endeavor to strengthen our faith. He becomes our Cornerstone. Then, when trials and uncertain times overtake us… when the foundations of our lives appear to fall into the heart of the sea, we have built a solid foundation upon our Rock.
I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. – Isaiah 46:4
The wellspring of our faith is God who promises to always be with us. We look to Him to see us through times of uncertainty. Our Almighty God protects us from evil. He gives us strength to persevere through trying times. We seek His face and trust in Him unwaveringly. That is courageous faith!
