OUR FAITH RESTS IN CHRIST, THE ETERNAL ROCK
____________________________________________________________
“If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast.” – Psalm 139:9-10 –
† Are you struggling to stay afloat in your spiritual walk? Is your faith getting washed away by the storms of life? Do you feel as if you are barely hanging on to your heavenly Lifeline?
God holds us. Our God has us firmly in His grasp. He will never let go of us. From the moment of our birth to the time He calls us home, He lovingly sustains us. Nothing can separate us from Him. No matter where we make our earthly home… or wherever our travels take us… He will always watch over us.
“From the ends of the earth I call to You, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.” – Psalm 61:2
Jesus is our Rock, the Rock of our salvation. He is the High and Exalted One… the One in whom we take refuge. Only in Him are we truly safe. He is our sure foundation… the foundation upon whom our steadfast faith is built. We can have peace in any storm when we are safely tethered to our Rock.
“This is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall lose none of all those He has given Me, but raise them up at the last day.” – John 6:39
Jesus reminds us that we are forever His. He holds us. We may believe we are alone, floundering, adrift… lost amidst our daily storms. Yet He promises that we are never lost to Him. His promise to the Father is that none of us, God’s children, will ever be forgotten.
“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand.” – John 10:28
When we were drawn to Christ, we were placed under His protective care. How precious we are to Him! He will never forsake us. He is our eternal home. It may seem as if we are clinging to Him desperately… when actually He holds us fast. He is the One who preserves us. We are tied securely to Jesus, our Rock.
“There are three kinds of faith in Christ:
† Struggling faith – like a man in deep water desperately swimming.
† Clinging faith – like a man hanging to the side of a boat.
† Resting faith – like a man safely within the boat – and able to reach out with a hand to help someone else get in.” – D.L. Moody
Perhaps you are struggling in your faith. Life has bombarded you with more than you can cope. The waves of life wash over you as you hang on to God as by a thread. Remember Jesus is the One who controls the winds and waves. He is the One who calms the stormy seas. We can place our absolute trust in our Lifeguard to rescue us.
Perhaps your faith is wavering… steady on the peaceful shores… yet faltering on the windswept seas of life. The turbulent waters unsettle your faith as you cling to your Lifeline of hope. Remember Jesus is the One who walks upon the waves. We can place our total trust in Him to lift us above the waves and lead us safely ashore.
Jesus is our almighty Lord. We rest our faith in Him. Always His throne of grace is open to our prayers. For He has made a way for us. When our world overwhelms, we lift our eyes to heaven and cry to Him for deliverance from our distress. He promises to always be near to those who call upon Him (Psalm 145:18).
“When a man has no strength, if he leans on God, he becomes powerful.” – D.L. Moody
In trying times… times when our faith is tested… when our strength is fading, we lean into our all-powerful God. For He desires that we have a mighty faith. A faith that rests in Him… that abides in Him… that draws upon His power. An abiding faith expects God to act on our behalf. As we step out believing, we can overcome our fears.
“Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord Himself, is the Rock eternal.” – Isaiah 26:4
When our true faith rests in our Eternal Rock, no trials, no adversities, no misfortunes can submerge us. The stormy waves and rough seas of life will not deter our trust in our unchangeable God. For He is the Rock of ages… ages past and ages everlasting. He is our peace in any storm. God holds us now and will hold us in His blessing of protection forever.
