WHAT DO THE NAMES OF CHRIST REVEAL TO US?

Jesus is Lord of all the universe… and He reigns as Lord in the life of every believer. We may view Him in finite ways, yet His attributes are infinite. Let us explore the many names of Jesus in Scripture that unveil facets of His divine character… and manifest His prophetic role in God’s master plan of salvation…
“The Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.” – Luke 1:35
† Son of God – Jesus is the Son of the Living God… the only begotten Son of the Father… holy and true
“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never end!” – Luke 1:32-33
† Son of the Most High – Jesus is the image of the invisible God… He and the Father are one
“Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.” – Revelation 5:5
† The Lion – Jesus is King of all… the One prophesied to rule on the throne of David forever
“’Are You the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?’ ‘I am,’ said Jesus, ‘and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.’” – Mark 14:61-62
† Son of Man – Jesus appropriates this name to claim both His divinity and His humanity… He is both fully God and fully Man

† Messiah – Christ – Jesus is the prophesied Savior… the One promised from the beginning of time to be our Redeemer
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made.” – John 1:1-3
† The Word – Jesus is the Word of God, Creator of the world with the Father… He upholds the universe by His powerful word
“I am the Alpha and the Omega… who is and was and is to come — the Almighty.” – Revelation 1:8
† Alpha and Omega – Jesus is the Eternal One… the firstborn over all creation, the Beginning and the End
“I am the First and the Last, the Living One. I was dead, and behold, now I am alive forever and ever!” – Revelation 1:17-18
† Living One – Jesus reveals His timeless existence… He conquered death and is alive forevermore
“The Lamb will triumph over them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings.” – Revelation 17:14
† King of Kings – Lord of Lords – Jesus is Lord of All… He reigns in all power, authority and victory
“I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. And its rider is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and wages war.” – Revelation 19:11
† Faithful and True – Jesus is the faithful and true witness… He rules with righteousness and justice
“You rejected the Holy and Righteous One. You killed the Author of life, but God raised Him from the dead, and we are witnesses of the fact.” – Acts 3:14-15
† Holy and Righteous One – Jesus reigns holy… He clothes His faithful ones with garments of righteousness
“The One who glorifies Me is My Father, of whom you say ‘He is our God.’… Before Abraham was born, I am!” – John 8:54, 58
† I Am – Jesus is from eternity past to eternity future… He is the same yesterday, today and forever
“He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6
† Prince of Peace – Jesus is the peace that passes all understanding… Through Him, we have peace with God for all eternity
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” – John 14:6
† The Way, the Truth, the Life – Jesus is the Savior of the world… the only name under heaven by whom we can be saved
“I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture.” – John 10:9
† The Gate – Jesus is the door into God’s kingdom… the only way to eternal life
“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” – John 1:29
† Lamb of God – Jesus is the Passover Lamb slain for us for the forgiveness of sins… the perfect and ultimate sacrifice
“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies.” – John 11:25
† Resurrection and Life – Jesus is our life… He holds all power over death and evil… By Him, we will one day be resurrected to life eternal
“The Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel.” – Isaiah 7:14
† Immanuel – Jesus is with us always, to the end of the age… He is the Mighty One who saves
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” – John 10:11
† Good Shepherd – Jesus is our Shepherd, the overseer of our souls… He watches over and cares for the flock of God
“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never hunger, and whoever believes in Me will never thirst.” – John 6:35
† Bread of Life – Jesus is the living bread from heaven, our source for sustenance… In Him, we have life in abundance
“I am the true vine… and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.” – John 15:1, 5
† True Vine – Jesus is the life-giving vine… Abiding in Him, we bear kingdom fruit
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12
† Light of the World – Jesus is the radiance of the glory of God… He is the light of our lives
“I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star.” – Revelation 22:16
† Morning Star – Jesus removes the darkness from our lives… He leads us into the dawn of new and eternal life
