WE ARE GOD’S CHILDREN WHO INHERIT ALL HIS PROMISES
__________________________________________________
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms. – Ephesians 1:18-20 –
The apostle Paul prayed this prayer for the believers in Ephesus. It is a prayer that all believers today can pray over their lives. It begins with a petition for spiritual insight and divine revelation to understand God’s truth. The Holy Spirit is the giver of this illumination and discernment so that we can live rightly, follow God’s will and be His light in the world.
Three wonderful promises of God given to all believers are found in this passage… His hope, His riches and His power. He has chosen us in His love to be His children… pure and righteous in His sight through His Son Jesus Christ. We are called to be His holy people. What a blessed calling!
God promises us hope in Him… in His salvation and the reward of eternal life. His hope is not like the hope of the world. It is not a hope without basis. It is a living hope in God, a confident expectation that He will bring to pass all that He has promised. This hope is based on His character that is both trustworthy and unchanging.
God promises us His riches… His inheritance. We are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, rich in all that He won for us on the cross… victory over death, forgiveness of sins, holiness in God’s eyes. We inherit all His blessings, both now and for eternity.
God promises us His mighty power through the Holy Spirit. We are strong in the Lord. His miraculous power, the power that raised Jesus from the dead, resides in us. God assures us that we can do the impossible through this power of Christ. We have victory in Him.
