LIVING FOR CHRIST AS SALT AND LIGHT IN A LOST WORLD

Just as one raindrop can send ripples across an entire pond… one life dedicated to the Lord can impact the lives of countless others.

“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” – Mark 16:15

“Go and make disciples of all nations.” – Matthew 28:19

Jesus came to seek and to save the lost (Luke 19:10). Before His ascension into heaven, He gave His followers the Great Commission… to spread the gospel message of salvation to all the world. This command was not just for the people of the time, but for all believers of all time. We are to carry on this mission of Christ. Are you up for the challenge?

“So if you turn one to Christ, that one may turn a hundred; they may turn a thousand, and so the stream, small at first, goes on broadening and deepening as it rolls toward eternity.” – D.L. Moody

Our lives can have eternal impact for God’s kingdom. For we are not to keep to ourselves the hope within us. We are commissioned by Christ to share this hope, this good news. As His ambassadors, His witnesses, His anointed ones, we reach out to the lost and point them to the only One who has the power to save.

Jesus calls us to be salt and light in the world. Believers season the world with the love and saving message of Christ. Just as a sprinkling of salt can transform the taste of food, our “salty” influence as we share the transforming message of Christ can change lives for eternity.

“In the place God has put us, He expects us to shine, to be living witnesses, to be a bright and shining light. While we are here, our work is to shine for Him.” – D.L. Moody

Jesus promises that those who follow Him will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life (John 8:12). His light of life shines brightly through us to the world. Believers are like a city on a hill that cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14). Our lives reflect our Savior. It is His Spirit in us that draws people to want to hear our message of hope.

“The way you store up treasure in heaven is by investing in getting people there.” – Rick Warren

Although we strive to let nothing dim His light in our lives… to never diminish our impact for the kingdom, our lives will not be perfect. Yet this will make Christianity relatable. People will see that they need not be perfect to come to Christ. For our Savior came to save not the righteous but sinners (Luke 5:32).

“Every place where God leads, there is your field.” – D.L. Moody

People in your world desperately need your salt and your light. Our purpose may not be to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth. Yet we have a responsibility to share the gospel with our words and our lives to those within our sphere of influence… those we love and those with whom we interact on a daily basis. This is our primary mission field.

“Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim that anything comes from us, but our competence comes from God. And He has qualified us as ministers of a new covenant.” – 2 Corinthians 3:5-6

Jesus may call us out of our comfort zone to have impact for His kingdom. Yet it is at the edge of our comfort zone where we look to His power, not our own… His Spirit of courage, boldness, passion… His heart of kindness, love, winsomeness. Nothing done in our own power will last for eternity. For it is the mighty power of Christ and His life-changing message that saves.

Lord… I accept the challenge of Your mission… to seek and to save the lost. Let me be salt and light to my world, seasoning it with Your love and illuminating the path to You. May I be ever a closer reflection of You. Keep me humble, remembering it is not about my greatness, but Your greatness on my behalf. It is Your power and Your Spirit that transforms lives for eternity. Let me have an eternal impact for You and Your kingdom. Amen.
