WE JOIN IN HEAVEN’S CELEBRATION WHEN WE PRAISE GOD

Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen! – Revelation 7:12 –

Praise is the music of heaven. We join with the angels when we praise our almighty God. Our hearts are joyful in His wondrous presence. Darkness flees and our enemies are scattered. Praise is our powerful spiritual weapon.

How are we to reverently praise our sovereign Lord? Let us come alongside the apostle John and take a glimpse into heaven to see how those in God’s holy presence praise Him.

Late in his life, John is sent into exile on the island of Patmos for his faithful testimony of Jesus. While there, he is miraculously caught up into heaven in the Spirit. He is shown great and awesome sights which he records in the Book of Revelation.

Although overcome by the magnitude of his experience, John catches sight of what praise looks like in the heavenly realms. In the throne room of heaven, he beholds God in all His glory seated upon His throne. Before Him are the four living creatures who praise Him day and night saying…

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.  Revelation 4:8

Around God’s throne sit the 24 elders dressed in white with crowns of gold. They fall down in worship before the Most High, laying their crowns before Him, saying…

You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being.  Revelation 4:11

John sees countless angels surrounding the throne… numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand (Revelation 5:11). He hears their voices praising Jesus, the Lamb of God…

Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise. – Revelation 5:12

Then John hears all creation joining in worship…

To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever! – Revelation 5:13

What a breathtaking sight for this humble apostle! In our own time of praise and prayer, we can bring a little of heaven to earth using these very words of worship overheard by John. Offering this same reverent praise to our Lord is a heaven-tested way to bring honor and glory to God. We will be joining in heaven’s celebration.
