“Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.” – Gimli, The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien –

In Tolkien’s Trilogy, we read of Gimli, a stouthearted dwarf who believes he can face any trial. Oh, that we could be as strong in faith as Gimli professes to be! Gimli believes he will never falter… never fall away. Yet his faith is tried again and again throughout his journey with the fellowship to save Middle Earth.

Our faith is only as strong as the One in whom we place our faith. If we had faith only in ourselves, we would be lost. Yet we have faith in an almighty, omnipotent God who will never fail us.

“I have come into the world as a Light, so that no one who believes in Me should stay in darkness.” – John 12:46

Faith is seeing light with our hearts when our eyes only see darkness. When our road darkens… as at times it will… we have a Light who will illuminate our way and overcome the darkness. Jesus is the Light of the World. He will walk by our sides and be the Light for our path. For He is the One in whom our faith rests.

“You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.” Psalm 18:28
